Lunchtime chatter: Lake Macquarie is calling

When my friend Jess and I caught up for lunch along Newcastle Foreshore the other day, she was enlightening me about her visit out to Lake Macquarie with her boyfriend.

They sure managed to fill in a day. What started out as a leisurely drive around the Lake, turned into an unearthing of unexpected treats; picture postcard views of the Lake, rainforests, complete with fish and chips, a stunning sunset and a good bottle of Hunter Semillon, and even a bit of fishing off the jetty at Fishing Point – the cute coupley things even blokes don’t mind.

I may just have to take a visit soon too!

My Hunter – a few of my favourite things

It’s 5.30pm on a Friday afternoon at work, I press send on my last email for the day and I’m out of here! This Friday is no ordinary end to the week however. This weekend, I go exploring. This place is right on my doorstep in Newcastle. This place, I call the Hunter Valley.

Food, glorious food, aromas, candles, wine and of course, my partner were waiting for me on arrival at The Leisure Inn, Pokolbin, just a short hour’s drive from Newcastle.

We found a little hidden gem in the Hunter Valley – Emma’s Cottage in Lovedale was an unexpected surprise. Set on a gorgeous working vineyard property, we set up a picnic with our newly purchased wine from the cellar door (aka the cottage) and ate and drank the afternoon away.

These are just a few of my favourite things in the Hunter. There are so many more…stay tuned!
