What a great place to visit, and I’ll let you in on a little secret for another reason to visit this majestic area – Barrington Tops Tourism have just been announced as a finalist in the 2010 NSW Tourism Awards.

It’s no surprise this special place is a finalist – with events, attractions and activities taking place all year round, discover outback adventures, relax and do nothing or go bushwalking, four wheel driving, swimming, canoeing or horse riding.

Award winners will be announced in Sydney on 19 November.

Discover a World Heritage Area right on your doorstep

Any guesses as to where this may be? Look no further than Barrington Tops.

Uncover the magic of this area at Gloucester Tops, one of the most accessible locations of this World Heritage listing. Discover the beech forest, wander through woodlands and uncover the majestic waterfalls trickling down from above.

The best thing is that this amazing area is just 1 hour north of Newcastle and 3 hours from Sydney. Such an easy day drive. Or why not spoil yourself and indulge in a little R&R for a truly relaxing weekend away in the rainforest.

There’s a rainforest in my backyard: Barrington Tops

The Barrington area is quite expansive and encompasses so many little villages, like Gloucestor, Dungog, Stroud, Copeland, Gresford, Vacy, Monkerai, Paterson, Clarence Town, Wards River and even Moonan.

There’s little quirky tales to be told at each village and the area is so rich in history from the original land owners with their huge homesteads to travelling by steam boat and horse and cart for half a day just to get to a hospital in Maitland.

The best part is that smiles and small talk will greet you in every town and you’ll find produce available at farm gates, straight from the paddock.
