Deck the Cells this Christmas at Maitland Gaol

Did you know that Maitland Gaol only closed its doors as a Correctional Institution in 1998? Up until then, this nostalgic old building housed some of Australia’s most infamous prisoners. Just imagine what it would have been like. On second thoughts, you can experience life on the inside for yourself!

Home to the Bitter and Twisted International Boutique Beer Festival, this iconic Maitland site offers visitors a chance to take a look around.
You can serve time during a self-guided audio tours, group sleepover nights (if you dare) or themed guided and ex-warder tours.

Mustering up a good time

Yeeha Maitland. The Maitland Muster Festival is just around the corner.

During 1 – 4 October, the Maitland Heritage Mall will be cowboy central and will host all sorts of country activities such as boot scooting, sheep dog trials, wool weaving and shearing demonstrations, as well as Country Women’s Association cooking demonstrations.

There will also be an extensive range of country music, both in the Mall and in 12 nearby venues around Maitland.

So get your boot-scooting boots out for this inaugural event and help support the local area.
I guarantee you’ll have an awesome time!

F is for Fairytale and Fun in Maitland

My favourite part of Maitland and surrounds is the gorgeous countryside which encircles each outlying town. From the sandstone cobbled paths and boutique shops of Morpeth, to the magic of the Maitland’s city centre, as it comes to life with each street festival.

You can dream sweet dreams and sleep like Sleeping Beauty in a cosy guesthouse or B&B, find action packed adventure like Peter Pan and fall from the sky with Skydive Maitland, or drink tea like the Mad Hatter at a café, restaurant or gourmet eatery in Morpeth.
